Welcome to Rigaud!
Located approximately 28 km (17 mi) west of
Montreal, Rigaud is a quiet town in the province of
Quebec
known for its maple sugar shacks. Ideal to visit any time of year, the
winter season is an exceptional time to go. The area's popular ski
resort,
Mont Rigaud Ski Center
offers lessons and well-maintained ski slopes for those just starting
out to the more advanced. A trip to Rigaud is not complete without a
stop to a maple sugar shack.
Sucrerie de la Montagne
offers 48.5 ha (120 acres) of land and is open all year. Visitors here
can also enjoy some French-Canadian hospitality by staying overnight in
one of their traditional log cabins. They also offer horse-drawn sleigh
rides and a bakery. Another maple sugar shack worth visiting is
Sucrerie Lavigne.
Aside from exploring its history in all things maple sugar, they also
create unique meals while guests are entertained by a variety of music.
A not-to-be-missed yearly event is the
Festival des Couleurs de Rigaud.
Usually held in October, this is an event the whole family will enjoy.
Translated into English, the festival name literally means “festival of
colours,” and it features a variety of local food, arts and crafts.
